Population Communication Services [PCS] Source: Communication Impact!. 1998 Nov;(4):1-2. Abstract: The Gold Star Quality Program of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population and Ministry of Information is the largest public sector family planning (FP) quality improvement program in the world. It aims to upgrade the quality of Egypt's FP services while creating among the public and service providers an expectation that services will meet the new standard of higher quality. In addition, it stimulates the supply of quality services through better training and supervision of health care providers, as well as stimulates demand by promoting these higher quality services to the public. The three-step Gold Star strategy entails: 1) promoting quality FP service providers as a means of enhancing their self-image and job performance; 2) promoting certified high- quality sites and services with an easily recognized symbol; and 3) associating these high-quality sites and services with an easily recognized symbol. The success of this quality initiative can be accounted for in the positive point of view of clients, communities, health care providers, and policymakers.
